The Oregon Chapter ACS Foundation supports the mission of the Oregon ACS through donations and volunteer efforts with Stop The Bleed.
The Stop the Bleed campaign is led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) to bring knowledge of bleeding control to the public and build national resilience.
Funds raised by the foundation will be put to work supporting Stop the Bleed programs in Oregon. Details are being worked out now, but most likely the funds will be used to support train the trainer programs, purchase of Stop the Bleed kits for schools and other institutions, and for community outreach.
Baker-Moseley Resident Abstract Competition
Each year at the Oregon-Washington annual meeting, residents and medical students present abstracts. The winner of the abstract competition receives the Baker-Mosely abstract award for clinical, scientific and educational abstracts.
Medical Missions to Haiti
By Dr. Karen Kwong
As with last year, we have not been able to go to Haiti due to political unrest in the country as well as our own US COVID issues. We want to be able to have all members who go be vaccinated as well as to not risk spreading COVID further to Haiti as well. There have been some belief that COVID came to Haiti through NGO's. Our Board met and have postponed our trip this spring. We are hopeful for perhaps being able to make a trip in October. The hospital and employees, as well as patients are very disappointed we will not be coming this spring, and had been hoping we would.
Lane Haitian Relief, our 501c3 made up of Doctors and RN's from Oregon with leader Dr. Snell Fontus have been donating to the hospital that we work with to help employees, pharmacy, and other needs. Our Board has met, and we are committing to help repair their x-ray machine and they also would like us to purchase an ultrasound for them to use for POCUS.
Note: as of recent years, mission trips have been suspended to social and political to unrest in Haiti.
